Happy New Year,
Fellow Kiwanians!
As we begin 2009, I am mindful that we have lost a number of longtime
club members recently. When I asked Warren Winslow to be in charge of
drafting resolutions in honor of members who have passed away, I never
imagined that he would have to write so many, so soon. These are sad
losses for us all individually, and for our club as a whole. At our
meeting this Thursday, January 8th, we will read resolutions in honor of
Richard Schade and Harold Jones. I thank Warren for his beautifully
worded tributes.
I am hoping that 2009 will be a year of growth for the Augusta Kiwanis
Club. When Harry White of Kiwanis International visited us, he
challenged us to each bring a new member into Kiwanis. Have you invited
a guest yet? I made contact with someone just today who will visit
soon, a woman with a great interest in serving the community. She was
attracted to the Augusta Kiwanis Club because of our focus on children
and youth. I have another person in my sights too! Think of the
injection of energy and new ideas if we each are able to bring in a new
member!
Lastly, I want to thank all of you for your support as I worked through
my mother's cancer diagnosis, treatment and surgery. Her illness
necessitated several absences from Kiwanis on my part, and your
understanding and compassion has reinforced for me what a wonderful
group of people you are! My mother is now recovering and I'm glad I can
be more attentive to club matters.
Yours in Kiwanis,
Betsy
